United Way Volunteer Center Connects Volunteers and Non-Profits
Although your United Way understands just how busy life can get, we also understand just how important it is to our community residents that you are doing your part to make our community a great place to live. That's why we've provided you with a new cutting edge tool to help link you to the needs of your community in a most convenient way.
1-800 Volunteer is here! Now, Chippewa, Luce, & Mackinac counties’ volunteers and non-profit organizations can easily find each other through 1-800-Volunteer.org free of charge!
1-800-Volunteer.org is a national network that helps volunteers find local and national opportunities to serve.
Designed by and built especially for Volunteer Centers by the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network, the 1-800-Volunteer.org system allows volunteers to search and find opportunities 24 hours a day. It’s easy for local volunteers to register and even easier for agencies to enhance their recruitment efforts. This is one more step your United Way has taken toward making volunteering easy in your neighborhoods.
There are currently 66 local organizations and programs with opportunities listed. That number is growing daily. Agencies from the tri-county area are already using the volunteer-tracking feature to record service hours of their volunteers. This site also offers organizations the option to automatically send and receive e-mails, thank volunteers for their service, and search for volunteers based on interests and skills.

Getting Started
Finding a volunteer opportunity uniquely suited to you can be accomplished in three simple steps:
Use your head
What are my natural talents, hobbies, interests?
How much time can I commit each day/week/month to helping others?
Who can I recruit to help me? Friends, family, co-workers, church folk?
What subject areas are intriguing to me?
Follow your heart
What community problems concern me the most?
Which issues have had a direct impact on me, family or friends?
What news headliners are frustrating me the most?
If I could change one thing in my community, what would it be?
Lend your hand
Prominently post 99 Ways to Help and scratch at least one off the list each week.
